Roy Smith

"I bought my first canvas and oil paints 4 years ago as therapy following a heart attack, and it took over my leisure hours completely.

"At present I would be described as a copyist, attempting to faithfully represent original works as closely as possible.

"Each painting I do now has more content than the last, as I learn to paint people, animal, etc in close up, whereas previously a landscape would have two people standing on a hill five miles away.

"The contents of my paintings are chosen to extend my abilities, give me pleasure and maybe let a customer buy a "Monet" signed 'Roy'."

Roy is exhibiting during Week 3 of the 2006 Cheltenham Open Air Art Exhibition, on Screen 3.
